Description
When they formed in 1992, Luna was a genuine alt-rock supergroup, boasting singer-guitarist-lyricist Dean Wareham from Galaxie 500, former Chills bassist Justin Harwood, and ex-Feelies drummer Stanley Demeski, in the midst of others. With a heavy dose of vagary pop, strategic reverb, and smartly minimalist songcraft, the company 's 1992 Elektra debut Lunapark sparked major critical and fan acclaim, as did their 1994 masterpiece Bewitched, which featured legendary Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison forward several tracks. Hypnotic, atmospheric, and captious, Penthouse and Pup Tent followed, simultaneously with personnel changes and a 1999 move to indie status, but the bond's stream of elegantly produced and sonically resonant albums continued. For their first for aye compilation, Rhino collects the essential move rapidly-spanning best of Luna.
