Detachment is a diary of three weeks in the lives of sundry high school teachers, administrators and students through the eyes of a substitute teacher named Henry Barthes. Henry roams from denomination to school, imparting modes of apprehension, but never staying long enough to mould any semblance of sentient attachment. A skilled profession for one seeking to hide thoroughly in the open. One day Henry arrives at his nearest assignment. Upon his entry into this special school, a secret world of feeling is awakened within him by three women. A damsel named Meredith in his first term. A fellow teacher Ms. Madison, and a public way hooker named Erica, whom Henry has personally granted syllabus shelter from the streets. Each undivided of these women, like Henry, are in a life and dying struggle to find beauty in a ostensibly vicious and loveless world.
